Do you ever think of social media impact on children? As we become more and more “social” on all of the various social networking channels, are we pushing the next generation to become more and more antisocial and alienated? What’s your opinion? Will children parks become empty as the next generation enter parenthood?
I was pretty shocked to read some old reports from 2010 and 2011 and find out the number of young users, as young as under 10, who use Facebook and other social medias. These minors are largely unsupervised by their parents while on the social networking sites. As much as I love using technology and social media, I worry, if we are grooming a generation with substandard social abilities with less and less human interaction?
Do you think we may be pushing the next generation towards a potential disasters? I am no one to judge others parenting styles but to me it sounds very irresponsible to let a minor use social media unsupervised. I am all for using social media to teach a child but only when a parent, teacher or caregiver is fully interactive with the minor. Is it time for laws, or education for parents and teachers for awareness and prevention of a potential social disaster?
I am in the mood of musing today. Head over to the Dallas Moms Blog to find out more about the stats and this subject and let me know your opinion.

Small kids should enjoy other kind of games. I guess it is right to delay as much as possible the contact with the virtual world.

I strongly second your opinion. I am quite again social networking myself, but to allow kids to get on it is ridiculous.
I see kids on instagram as young as 8 and I am in shock. So much to vent out regarding this subject that I can’t stop if I start.

I don’t blame the kids as they don’t know any better. It’s time for parents to wake up. I have strong opinions about watching television as well. I cringed every time when people told me that I should really let my daughter watch some TV as we had strict no TV/screen policy until she turned 2+. Now a days, she gets about 30 minutes on Saturdays and I don’t think she is actually missing out on anything.
Thank you for your comment, Asha.

Hello! I do think there is a concern as this is sort of a “new territory” and we still don’t know what the consequences or results will be. We had an intruder in our family recently (check out my post: http://papayapieces.com/2014/01/08/orange-ginger-marmalade-recipe/ ) and I’m sure a lot of the info this guy got was through our social media. So its also scary how someone can find us to hurt us through social media, and the children included.
