My dearest non-Muslim and Muslim blogger friends – I am personally reaching out today to invite you to participate on a virtual Iftar potluck to foster better inter-religious understanding of Ramadan in the food blog world.
If you have been following me, you know that Muslims around the world will be observing the holy month of Ramadan starting June 28 this year, in which we abstain from food and drink(including water) from sunrise to sunset. It’s a joyous time for Muslims to reflect on life and practice self-discipline. At sunset every night, Muslims around the world gather in homes and mosques together for Iftar with family and friends(Muslim and non-Muslim) to break fast. It is an honor for a Muslim to share the rites of Ramadan.
A key part of breaking fast is giving back to the community by welcoming guests into our home and share a meal. That being said, I’d have loved to host an open house and invite you to our home to break fast with us one day. Since that is not possible, I am inviting you to an online Iftar potluck. The simple act of sharing a meal together can be the foundations of a new friendship.
Food plays such an important role in cultures and traditions and my goal with this virtual potluck is to forge better understanding of Ramadan and Islam over food. If you think food can foster better inter-religious understanding, I humbly ask to give your non-Muslim readers a chance to see what a normal Muslim do during Ramadan.
My ask is to post a recipe(alcohol and pork free) on your blog as you usually do and write a little about Ramadan from your perspective on July 12th, 2014 by 10AM CST. If you have questions or want me to explain or clarify any questions about Ramadan, I will be happy to do so. I will compile the list of all the blog posts of this virtual Iftar Potluck on the Ramadan page I am launching on the first day of Ramadan.
The rules you ask? There isn’t any.
You are welcome to let your blogger friends know about this iftar potluck and ask to participate. Let your readers know that I am hosting this iftar so they can come and take a peak at the spread. Also, please RSVP no later than July 7th by accepting or declining this invitation so I know how many entries to expect.
With peace.
Lail

Good Day!
This is an interesting virtual Ramadan Potluck. Looking forward to participate but since I’m a newbie to this blogging world, few questions would enlighten my understanding. Should I only post the recipe and photo on my blog site by 12th July, 2014? How many entries are recommended? What’s the preferable menu type for this potluck? Anything else that I need to know before taking part in this potluck?
Thanks in Advance
Lail Hossain says
Hi Abby! Thank you for your interest in participating on the virtual potluck. I am thrilled to have you on board. As mentioned on the invite, the goal of the potluck is to foster a better inter-religious understanding of Ramadan over a delicious meal. What this means is that each participant will write a little about Ramadan educating the respective readers along with a recipe, photo and publish the post by 10AM CST. Just one entry is fine. Since it is a potluck, you can pick whatever item you want to make for this potluck as long as it is halal meaning the recipe is alcohol and pork free.
Hope this helps. I have written about Ramadan in the past and will be writing more in the next few days if you want to know more. Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions.
Abby Lakshmi says
Thanks for the reply. Should I post the recipe on my blog and share it on google plus as well? Any specific entry name to indicate our participation?
Lail Hossain says
Please let me know the URL an sen a photo so I can showcase all the delicious items. You can off course submit a photo t the G+ event.
Abby Laks says
Thanks friend.

I would be honoured to participate. I have often wished that women ran the world – instead of wars, we would get together, trade recipes, and have a tea party. I may not be in town on July 12 to post, but I hope I can post a traditional Jewish recipe in time to join your party.
Lail Hossain says
Even with all the get-together and tea parties, I think the world would be a better place. How can reading a post about Ramadan over a Jewish recipe bring any evil to the world? I am thrilled you’ve decided to join. Hugs.

I’ll share Ramadan related information on the blog before and after the potluck. With this potluck, I hope bloggers like you will research/read a little about Ramadan and spread the words amongst the reader’s who may or may not know about Ramadan. I am so glad you are in, Daniela. Thank you!

This potluck idea is very nice. But do I have to post my recipe first on my blog and then re-share it here? or just post it here itself!?
Lail Hossain says
Hi Deboli. Glad to hear you also agree that this potluck is a great idea. For the post, write something about Ramadan and publish your recipe on your blog and let me know the URL. Let your reader’s know to come over here to savour the other potluck dishes.
