Oh the possibilities of Halva (also referred as হালুয়া, halwa, halua, xalwa, halawa, alva, haleweh, halava, helava, helva, aluva, chalva) recipes. This dense, sweet dessert is popular across South Asia, Central Asia, West Asia, North Africa, the Horn of Africa, the Balkans, Central Europe, Eastern Europe, Malta and the Jewish world, so you can imagine how diverse it can get. You’ll start with a small bite, then another bite, then one more and then another — eventually consuming a lot if you don’t portion it.
Most halwa can be preserved for several months in the refrigerator or freezer. Halwa is great as dessert, snack, or tea time or served with nan or tortilla for breakfast treat. Here’s just a few for your enjoyment.
