Choose Items with meaning and sentiment
Do you know what is a great way to chasing away winter blues? Decorating with thoughtful accessories; items that warms your heart and have special meaning such as an alhamdulillah sign or candle holder that fills your heart with gratitude, mementos from vacations, heirlooms you treasure. Fill the empty corners in your home with what warms your heart and reflect on your blessings. Trust me, there are many.
My simple coffee table winter decor is full of blessing. It reminds me of the slow paced 5 mile nature walk with my husband last fall. I had picked up the pine cones along the way. Every time I look at them, my heart is filled with warm memories of that day in Seattle. Every time I think of Seattle, I’m also reminded of my family and how thankful I am for each one of them. Alhamdulillah.
Baby’s breath, one of my favorite flowers, reminds me of purity and how we should strive to cleanse our heart and get rid of jealousy, envy, arrogance and so on. And looking at how that gorgeous gorgeous tray is keeping everything anchored is a reminder of being grounded. Being grounded as myself and as a family.

Bring in Warm Hues
Since Texas is extremely hot most of the months, I like to keep my home decor light and airy through out the year, and chose cooler tones. But when it comes to winter, I’m all for warm hues. Earth tones, metallic, walnut, khaki, navy are great options for winter. Swapping the cushion covers to a warm hue, or using a candle holder with some of these colors are a very inexpensive way to add warm tones in your home during the cold winter months.
Layer Cozy Throws and Pillows
Nothing gives me more joy than to cuddle up with a soft and warm blanket. Cozy texture feel reassuring, like a grown up security blanket. An ample supply of pillows and throw blankets in the living room are a must to get all cozy at the end of a busy day. Plush throws on the sofa, bed or the reading nook are great for snuggling up with a book or the Quran alone or cuddle up with the family.

Lit Fire, Candles and Lanterns
If it has to be dark outside 15 hours of the day, might as well stick lanterns and candles in every dark corner of the house. The Qamar lanterns are perfect for soft, whimsical, cozy light to lift up your mood.
Lighting a candle adds instant coziness at the end of a cold day while I cook dinner or listen to my daughter practicing Quran or doing her homework. So what if the house is a mess, the laundry is piled up and the sink is full of dirty dishes? If you have one, turning on the fireplace also adds warmth in your home. It lifts up the mood and makes finishing up the mundane tasks a little bit easier.

Bring nature indoors
I’m a big fan of bringing the nature indoors all year long. Just because there aren’t many flowers growing in winter, doesn’t mean you can’t fill your life and home with warmth. Decorate with evergreens, pine cones, cranberries, oranges and many other seasonal pop of colors. Simple evergreen clippings in vases make a big difference in your winter decor.
With the cold and lack of sunlight, we spend less time outdoors than other times of the year. A relaxed cozy home is what gets us through the cold winter and has us counting down the days till Spring.
