Savory Puff Pastry with Leftover Meat

Turkey Samosas a.k.a savory puff pastry is unique and delicious way to use up those leftover turkey (or chicken). These freezer friendly hand pies with turkey, chicken or vegetables are a favorite of both adults and kids.

Ingredients
  • 1 lb leftover turkey (or ground chicken or shredded chicken from broth)
  • 1 cup onion, sliced
  • 1-2 green chili
  • ½ teaspoon garam masala
  • ½ tea spoon ginger paste
  • ½ tea spoon garlic paste
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • salt, according to taste
  • Puff pastry
  • 1 egg
Instructions
  1. Steps to cook filling:
  2. Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed frying pan.
  3. Add ½ cup finely chopped onions, green chili and fry till succulent.
  4. Add the meat, garam masala, ginger and garlic paste, turmeric and slow cook till the water from the meat almost dries up, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add salt and remaining onion and slow cook till oil separates and chicken is cooked through.
  6. Steps to assemble puff pastry:
  7. Pre heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  8. If your puff pastry doesn’t come flat, roll out puff pastry to ¼ inch thickness if needed.
  9. Using a cookie cutter, cut pastry dough to desired shapes.
  10. Spoon filling in the middle of one piece and close the pastry with another piece.
  11. Beat egg with one teaspoon water. Brush egg-wash on top of pastry.
  12. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Notes
Meat cooking time will differ if you are starting with raw meat vs shredded meat from leftover turkey, beef or chicken.
Adjust chili and spices according to taste.
Onion should be a bit raw in the filling and fully cooked during the baking process.
