Family picnics create lasting summer memories and we are all about taking advantage of a sunny day with a picnic.
And out of all the picnics, it’s the impromptu family meals on the lawn or at a park that I love the most. The ones where we grab an old quilt, basket, sandwiches, fresh fruits and venture out into the backyard or a nearby park. Even if the meal is as basic as few slices of bread and homemade jam, family picnics are a perfect way for family members to connect.
No matter how simple the food is the excitement you see when the kids hear picnic is priceless. We’ve had picnics during breakfast by the neighborhood lake, in the park during lunch, and at our backyard in the evening. There is really something interesting and fun about taking your favorite foods, fruits, and snacks outdoors and finding the perfects spot to have a seat and enjoy!
I made some delicious jam with juicy peaches from our garden recently. So for this impromptu picnic, we packed some fresh bread, jam, fruits and went to backyard for some summer fun and good memories.
Eating with family is important no matter where you are. So have some outdoor or indoor fun with a family picnic!
P.S. We love to play Trivia Burst card games during our backyard picnics.
- 5lb peaches, pitted and roughly sliced
- 2 cups sugar (adjust depending on the sweetness of the peaches)
- 3 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- Wash, pit and roughly slice the peaches.
- On medium heat, cook peach slices, sugar and lemon juice.
- Bring mixture to boil, stirring constantly, as fruit slices become jam like consistency.
- Be careful not to let mixture boil over.
- Ladle jam into the prepared, cleaned and dried jars.
Jam stays well in refrigerator for 4+ months.
Wash the canning Jars, lids and bands in hot, soapy water and then rinse with boiled water. Drain well and dry before storing jam.
