As a busy working mom, I love quick and easy recipes. Who doesn’t right? This quick and easy dumpling soup is one of my go to recipes for the days when I have less than 30 minutes to get dinner on the table. The incredibly delicious soup can be ready in no time using frozen gyoza. Juicy and yummy shrimp dumplings in a hearty chicken stock. The most comforting soup ever.
My entire family loves this flavorful dumpling soup for dinner. I often make it for iftar during Ramadan. I add in spinach for added nutrition. You can add in bokchoy or carrots too. Chinese dumplings, or gyozas, are sold by the bag in the frozen-food section of most grocery stores. We love the shrimp gyoza but you can use the vegetable gyaoza too.
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- 2 tablespoon chopped onion
- 1 2-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and julienned
- 6 cups chicken or vegetable stock
- Pinch of salt
- 16 frozen shrimp dumpling or Gyoza
- 4 cups baby spinach
- 3 scallions (green parts), thinly sliced (optional)
- freshly ground black pepper
- Heat sesame oil and add onion. Saute for 2-3 minutes and add the sliced ginger.
- Put the broth, salt in the mix and bring to a boil over high heat. Adjust the heat so the broth simmers and cooks to lightly flavor with ginger, about 10-15-minutes.
- Add the dumplings, cook for 3 minutes, stir in the scallions(if using).
- Add in the spinach and cook until the greens wilt, about 1 minute.
- Sprinkle black pepper.
- Divide among warm bowls and serve.
You can also add 1 cup thinly sliced carrots

i am the one in the family who loves wonton soup. the rest just want the friend rice and sweet and sour or general tsao chicken. there is one restaurant in town that makes me happy with their wonton soup so i decided to make my own and this recipe was the one i chose. i very happy with my choice but will try to boil the wontons in water next time and then put them in the chicken stock as one other reviewer suggested. it was wonderful though and i made extra and froze them so im anticipating my next experience YUMMY!!! thank yo
